Add to wishlistRare mechanical white dancing bear. Fernand Martin, Paris, circa 1909.
EUR 1.285,00Category: Antique Tinplate Mechanical Toy Figures
Rare mechanical white dancing bear by Fernand Martin, Paris, circa 1909. An evocative glimpse of Parisian street life from the early 20th century. Martin produced the model in both brown and white versions; the white example is considerably more rarely seen. The bear has a chain around its muzzle and carries a pole across its shoulders. The winding key is positioned at the side, and the clockwork mechanism functions well. When wound, the bear dances animatedly from side to side. The bear is in very good condition and bears the Fernand Martin mark beneath the foot. A rare and characterful collector’s piece from the celebrated Parisian toy maker. Add to wishlistMechanical hand painted tin toy: A Fernand Martin (France) clockwork automaton, "Le CLochard" from 1899.France
EUR 1.275,00Category: Antique Tinplate Mechanical Toy Figures
A Fernand Martin (France) clockwork automaton, "Le CLochard" (the drunkard) from 1899. Martin toys are portraying French life in the 19th century. They are crude in one way and sophisticated in another. Martin''''s genius was to observe everyday people and transform them into toys. Many times toys are made for children but with adults in mind. The subtleties would be lost on a child. This is an early toy figure of a drunkard, with painted face, grey top hat with the Martin mark, a bottle and cup, with permanent key, black metal feet, check trousers and plain tunic (some wear and tear). Made to walk with a stagger and periodically take a drink, has survived remarkable well. See F.Marchand,L''''Historie des Jouets Martin,Paris 1987.
